E128: Celebrate 10 years of helping lawyers succeed at work and life
Apr 13, 2022Running a business is no easy feat. Keeping one running is even harder. Research suggests that only 78.5% of small businesses survive their first year. Law firms aren’t much different (see here and here). Failures can result from overwhelm, loss of passion, lack of financial management, and lack of systems and processes. It’s one of the reasons we founded Gimbal in the first place. We want lawyers to build profitable practices and achieve their financial goals, without sacrificing all the other things that matter to them.
This month, we’re celebrating Gimbal’s 10-year anniversary. Wow! It's hard to believe we've been helping lawyers build better practices since 2012.
We started sharing tips and advice in our first blog post on June 14, 2012. Now, over 250 posts and tips later, we've helped thousands of lawyers around the world generate more revenue without working as hard, so they have can succeed in work and in life.
Here are just a few highlights. In the last 10 years we’ve:
- Successfully completed process improvement projects with some of the US and Canada's largest law firms and companies, delivering significant cost savings and revenue improvements.
- Led the world-wide development of the discipline of legal process improvement through our role as Global Advisors to the International Institute of Legal Project Management (the IILPM).
- Launched the only internationally recognized Legal Process Improvement Professional certification program under the auspices of the IILPM.
- Spoken at legal conferences around the world on practice management, process improvement, legal innovation, legal technology, and legal service delivery.
- Created the LeanLegal® Academy, with its suite of webinars and courses for lawyers and legal professionals, to teach core business and practice management skills and strategies.
- Launched Virtual Coffeehouse, a webinar platform that connected our network of legal industry experts with lawyers around the world, and provided a community and continuing legal education for free or almost-free throughout the pandemic. Sometimes we had lawyers from 20 countries in a single session. The Virtual Coffeehouse Vault is packed with over 35 workshops and webinars, and access remains free.
- Built our global reputation as leading providers of legal practice management courses for attorneys and legal professionals, as well as law firm coaching and consulting. Just this month, we are teaching courses in Chile, Philadelphia, Nashville, and Banff. Our client roster right now includes law firms, legal departments, and universities in Canada, the US, Peru, Mexico, and the Caribbean.
- And David became certified as a BMS Coach, which allows us to expand our offerings on the business and marketing side of the practice. More recently, it’s helped us to branch out to entrepreneurs outside the legal industry, and we’re looking forward to building out this aspect of the business in the next 12 months.
By far the biggest highlight is the vast number of people we’ve touched with our programs.
We’ve helped lawyers around the world build productive, profitable practices and we’ve developed strong relationships with repeat clients who are a joy to work with.
